DAHAB!!!

We were all very excited to arrive at Dahab. Straight into the pool before having the afternoon to rest after our huge climb. In the evening we took jeeps (see top left photo) into the town for dinner. We did a variety of neat activities in Dahab including, quad biking in the dessert and banana boating. Such a neat place!!!

Mt Sinai

At midday, we began our 12 hour bus journey from Hurghada. We arrived at Mt Sinai at 2am to begin our climb. We climbed for 3.5 hours up the very rugged slopes (only by torch) to the summit to watch the sunrise. Luckily we had a few rest stops on the way. We then made our way down via 3800 steps!!!

Valley of the Kings

We visited the Valley of the Kings, a resting place for Kings between the 11-16th centuries. Over 60 tombs have been discovered over 1000's of years, the latest being in 2006. We entered 3 of the tombs, all being very unique. We visited an Alabaster factory before heading to the Temple of Hatsheput built in the limestone hills.

Luxor

Today we took the coach from the Felucca boats to Luxor. We had a Egyptianoligist show us around the Luxor and Karnak Temples. Both were very interesting as they are believed to be the largest ancient religious sites in the world. In the evening we walked through the markets before having dinner in an Egyptian restaurant.

Felucca Sail Boats

We left Aswan by the Nile river on Felucca sail boats. Both days, it was very windy so we did mostly floating down the river. Each night we pulled to the side where we enjoyed football games and even a campfire (in 40 degree heat). All our meals were provided on the boat (see 3rd picture in at the top)

Abu Simbil

Today we left the hotel at 3am to join a convoy of tourist buses to drive to Abu Simbil temple. The temples were incredible. They were moved 100's of years ago from down by a man made lake to the site they sit today. The statues at the front reach 10m high.

Cairo

In Cairo we visited a perfume shop, they are very popular in Egypt as they produce all there own oils. We also had a guided tour through the very good Egyptian museum before heading to a papyrus gallery to see a demonstration on how they create the paper. In the evening we boarded an overnight train to Aswan.
